Charles Lotton Cherry Multiflora Large Vase (1995)
This rare Charles Lotton Cherry Multiflora Vase was suggested to me by Charles himself in 1995 during a visit to his studio. He was especially pleased by the light Cherry color he had achieved, giving the piece a translucent character that was lacking in the dense, rich colors of his Bing Cherry pieces. Charles was particularly pleased at how the open glass field color of "Cherry Pink" complimented the pink and red hues of the Multiflora petals that he created up and down the vase.
This is one of our prized vases. It has graced our mantlepieces and display shelves for decades. It is about 9 inches high and 6 inches across at the wides. It has a small neck. Its fantastical dark vines curl around contrasting blue-green leaves and open dream flowers — the Multiflora pattern that Charles invented.
We consider this among the finest pieces we have of Charles work, and hope that it will end up in a fine home or institution. May it continue displaying its magical kinetic nature for generations to come. The spirit of Charles is alive and well in this one!
