Charles Lotton Multiflora Frosted & Caged Lamp (1998)

SKU: RSB-000115

Handel, Pairpoint, Tiffany — Puffies & Peacocks — This 1998 exquisite museum-quality creation of the late Master of Glass, Charles Lotton, holds its own against such competitors for the connoisseur's eye. It is its own statement. RSB is offering buyers a rare opportunity to snatch one of these off of a very limited market, coveted by Lotton collectors, museum curators, and celebrity decorators.

Charles Lotton made very few of these Frosted and Caged Multiflora Lamps due to the intricacies and perils of the glass blowing process. He urged me to purchase this piece in 1998 because, in his opinion, he did not think he was up to making many more of this type and style.

Apparently, the processes he used to make these made their creation precarious at best. He told me that many of his attempts ended up on the floor of the Lotton Studios... Charles also confided in me that he had made one such lamp for a wedding present for a close relative, and that — because the process went so smoothly for once — he decided to make "just a few more..."

The shade and base are beautifully decorated with pink and white flower heads floating throughout the ice-like glass, the surfaces then drizzled with thick serpentine applications of clear glass, called "caging". The flame glass finial is finely hand-crafted, given ridged applications that mimic the caging technique.

The Lamp's height to the tip of the finial is 27 1/2 inches. This lamp is in the usual ruffled style that measures 16 inches across and 8 inches tall and has the engraved signature of the esteemed Charles Lotton along with title and creative year, 1998. It is hard to see in the photo since it is engraved on frosted glass. Charles' Frosted lamps are a rarity and seldom seen on the market. The last we are aware of was sold in 2018.

This is a stunning piece of Charles' artistry. It is at the pinnacle of items desired by Lotton Collectors, Museums and Institutions. In our opinion, this lamp is destined to live in a museum, institutional. or private collection someday. There will never be another one exactly like it. It is in excellent original condition.

It is also very heavy — about 40 lbs. plus. It will be shipped "box in a box" in two separate pieces and then assemblage will take place at the purchaser's place of business or home.
