John Lotton Clematis Vase (1995)
John Lotton's 1995 Clematis Vase is the artist at his creative best — fantastic clematis flowers grow up the central vase and boldly display their colors with abandon.
John is the third son of the Master glass artist Charles Lotton. Charles introduced his sons David, Daniel and John to glass blowing at an early age. Each of the sons apprenticed for their father long before attempting to create their own work and establish their individual styles and "look." David and John opened their own glass blowing studios while Daniel and Charles headed up a select group of accomplished artisans at the original Lotton Glass Studio in Lansing, and then Crete, Illinois. John Lotton has since retired from glass blowing to pursue another career.
The Vase is about 7 inches tall and 5 inches wide and weights close to 3 pounds. It is cased with a clear layer of glass which enhances the perceived motion of the flowers and adds depth to the entire climbing Clematis theme.
