Oil Portrait of Mrs. A. Hunter Pritchard Georgetown, Washington, D.C. (1889)
This beautiful portrait of Mrs. A. Hunter Pritchard once graced the Old Baptist Home, located in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. before it was demolished, The Baptist Home was located in Georgetown, formerly a part of Maryland until the District of Columbia was created by Act of Congress to serve as our nation's capital.
A note on the back of the portrait states: "I bought this picture when the old home was dismantled. I have kept it in case the new home would like to re-hang it some day." The note is signed but Ms. M.D. CHenowith, April 8, 1889. We have tried to trace the history of Mrs. Pritchard and Ms. Chenoweth to no avail. Perhaps better sleuths can discover more about this beautiful painting and its artist.
The portrait is enhanced by a beautiful gilt and carved picture frame. It is about 36 inches high and 28 inches wide (the canvas itself) and the frame is much larger. It weight about 15 lbs. and has a glass pane to protect it.
