Charles Lotton Early Aquamarine Silver Pulled-drape Vase (1975)
This early Charles Lotton Pulled-drape Silver Threaded Vase was created in 1975. It is a very collectible item for early Charles Lotton fans. It is small — 6 inches by 5 inches and weighs about 1 lb. It shows the artists' early experimentation with Pulled-drape and other design elements. It demonstrates the interplay between metallic surfaces and the underlying molten glass — elements which were to evolve into much bolder patterns over the decades.
This vase is delicate and fairly light for a Charles Lotton piece. We believe it was created in the Lansing studios while Charles was still under contract with Lillian Nassau. Hence, the rather small size of the piece. Works from this era are increasingly difficult to find, but essential for any Charles Lotton collector.
We purchased it from the Petri Estate in Nashville several years ago.
