Daniel Lotton Large Fuchsia Anthurium and Vine Vase (1995)
Daniel Lotton's 1995 large Anthurium Vase is a tour-de-force and a museum-quality piece. It is very heavy, with a crystal casing as its outer layer. It is lined with a White Opalescent interior.
The colors contained in the piece are one of a kind. Daniel explains (in the 2007 book Lotton Glass: The Legacy p. 158) that "Lotton colors are unrivaled and different from all others... the Lottons have a vast palette. Our Mandarin Yellow and Mandarin Orange are unique and our flowers are unsurpassed. Each glass blower has his own formulas and designs. Clarity in our crystal can be a huge challenge. Sometimes you struggle; sometimes it comes easily. Sometimes you just dump a bad pot of glass. It's great to have family in the business with four minds to analyze problems."
This bowl "catches fire" depending upon its placement and the lighting of its setting. It is pleasing to the eye no matter what the mood around it — and it seems to soothe whatever rough feelings may have occurred in the observer's ephemeral now.
The piece measures 10 inches high, 12 inches wide and weighs over 10 lbs.
