Charles Lotton Iridescent Gold / Purple Horse Head Pendant in Bezel (1996)
This Charles Lotton Iridescent Horse Head Pendant is one of several pieces created between 1975 and the 1995. Many of the Lotton Family, including Charles and David, created free-form pendants, earring sets and an assortment of floral and horse head pendants in various styles and colors. The piece is signed "Lotton" 1996.
This particular piece is an iridescent gold and purple. It dates from 1996. An early example of the Horse Head Pendant it is found and described as Item 590 on p. 125 of the book Lotton Art Glass by Thomas O'Connor and Charles Lotton (1990). The Horse Head is about 1 inch by 1 inch. It weighs about an ounce. The Horse Head is cast on a rondel which in turn is contained in a brass bezel with a loop for attaching it to a necklace.
