Amber / Gold L. E. Smith Rearing Horse Art Deco Bookends (1940's)

Imagine these in your Library, your Man Cave, Your Woman Cave, or in the Kid's bedroom... the L. E. Smith Amber-colored Art Deco Rearing Horse Bookends are beautifully crafted from the mid-Century era, probably the mid- to late 1940's. And, they are a deep Amber / Golden color! Lighter tones of Amber are found in the mane and legs and the solid base when viewed in full sunshine. They are in mint condition with no chips or discernible wear, other than slight wear marks on the bottoms of the Bookends.

The Amber Color is perfect for Libraries and Entry Foyers. And Amber is a very "in" color for Mid-Century Modern home décor and palettes. They weigh about 3 lbs. each and are designed to be just what they are: Bookends. There is no mark or signature on them. We surmise that the stickers on them were long ago washed off by meticulous housekeepers. But the Art Deco design is uniquely L.E. Smith, who manufactured these in a variety of stunning colors and in Clear glass.

The Amber is unusual — clear glass versions are frequently on the market, but not these. That's why they which fetch a premium from collectors and decorators. And these are real stunners. They catch the light, seem to move a bit during the day, and have a playful sense of design about them.

These are Art Deco style horses. According to the Britannica Encyclopedia: "Art Deco was an art movement that was initially unveiled at an exhibition held in Paris in 1925. While it reached the height of popularity during the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, Art Deco was actually a movement that had been in development for more than a decade prior to its announcement. Seen as a very decorative art style, Art Deco artists soon experimented with the genres of design, painting, furniture, architecture, and building within its stylistic realm."
