John Lotton Leaf & Vine Vase (1994)
John Lotton's 1994 Leaf & Vine Vase has a certain "Zen" to it. Because of its inner sleeve of Vermillion, it plays with the light that changes around it, flaming into a smoldering orange, then calming down to a peaceful Opalesque luster after the psychedelic leaf / flower creations have had their say.
John is the third son of renowned glass Master Charles Lotton. John Lotton is known for his heavy glass bowls and vases with fantastical floral motifs and color combinations. And some daring experimentation with colors and layers and layers of floral patterns.
Charles introduced his sons David, Daniel and John to glass blowing and each of Charles' sons apprenticed for their father for years before creating their own work styles. John is known especially for his Clematis, Paperwhite and fantasy flower designs. John Lotton retired from glass blowing to pursue another career and as far as we know, his glass artistry ended in the late 1990's.
John Lotton pieces are highly valued and becoming more scarce because of his limited years of production and the gorgeous and unique works he created in the day.
The Vase is about 9 inches tall, 6 inches wide, and weighs close to 6 lbs. It has an outer casing of clear glass and is signed on the bottom by the artist.
