Charles Lotton Pink Multi Flora Sunset Bowl (1987)
Charles Lotton created this Pink Multi Flora Sunset Bowl in 1987. Close inspection shows amazing color contrasts, especially in the Multi Flora petals and in the surrounding leaves which include hues of green, gold, yellow and turquoise.
Charles Gerald Lotton (born October 21, 1935 — passed on September 17, 2021) was a contemporary glass artist and Master of American glass making. He is known among glass collectors and connoisseurs for his "secret" batchmaking methods and daring colors, the recipes for which may never be available.
Lotton’s glass is in the collections of major museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Corning Museum of Glass, High Museum, and the Smithsonian. His work is collected by an interesting assortment of celebrities, business leaders and collectors across the globe. And, since his demise, the general public is now awakening to this modest Master and glass genius.
This piece weighs about 7 lbs., and is approx. 9 inches high and 11 inches wide. It is a stunning example of Charles' experimental styles and ideas. Some of the most collectible pieces of Charles' include his Multi Flora designs from the 1980's and 1990's, particularly the Sunset pigmentation of the interior layer. Multi Flora pieces are eagerly sought by collectors due to their bold execution, kinetic qualities, and unexpected color combinations.
Any Lotton collector or connossieur should consider Charles Lotton Multi Flora works a "must have." And, while he may be imitated by some, there was only one Charles.
