Mermod & Freres Ideal Piccolo Musical Box
This beautiful Mermod & Freres Ideal Piccolo Musical Box with three Cylinders dates from the late 1880's. It has graced several fine homes over its 140 years of entertainment, the latest of which was our home at Faulkner House in West Virginia. It has cylinders created by Swiss craftsmen containing some of the "hits" of the time including one devoted to beautiful Christian hymns, another with favorite Scottish ballads which on which we played "Auld Lang Syne" for many New Year's celebrations, and one which contains popular waltzes of the era.
Beautiful working mahogany and rosewood Ideal Piccolo interchangeable cylinder music box. This Mermod Freres of St. Croix, Switzerland case has a filigree carved front panel and drawer in the base for storing 2 extra cylinders, decorative gilt bronze side handles, nickel mounts on the front, exterior crank on the right side, celluloid panel under the lid reads "Ideal Piccolo, Any Number of Cylinders, can be obtained for this box"; interior has a hinged glass paneled dust cover, with Stop-Play lever. Spring driven mechanism plays 14.75 in. long cylinders, 6 tune Change-Repeat indicator, Jacot's patent "Safety Check" lever, speed regulator. Case is in nice overall condition, original finish, working; Measures: 11 in. high x 34 in. wide x 15.5 in. deep.
