Inez Knierem "Abandoned Iowa Farm House in Winter" (1950's)
Inez Knierem was a noted Davenport, Iowa artist whose watercolors are found in many homes throughout the Quad Cities area and more widely across the U.S. We believe this undated watercolor was painted in the 1950's, when Inez and Helen Spurrier made frequent sketching tours of Scott County, Iowa. They were taken by Scott County's beautiful rolling black earth farmland and buildings.
This haunting — yet captivating — view of an abandoned Iowa Farm House in winter intrigues us. Who lived here? Why is nobody taking care of this home? What memories lie within, and where did the family who lived here go? Ultimately, we ask "When will a new season begin and new owners take over stewardship of a simple but well built farm home"?
The watercolor is nicely framed and measures about 9 x 13 inches in a frame that is 18 x 22 inches. It weighs about 4 pounds.
