Antique Bohemian Ruby Cut to Clear Grape & Leaf Cut Glass Bowl (1880's - 1890"s)
The Antique Bohemian Ruby Cut to Clear Cut Crystal Glass Bowl has an unusual amount of artifice and two rows of round facets combined with intricate Grape Leaf and Vine patterns. It was purchased in Western Pennsylvania in the 1990's. It has no signatures or other marks to indicate the artists or manufacturers.
It is of the Bohemian (now Czech Republic) style found in the late Hapsburg Empire in the 1880's - 1890's and was either used as a decorative vase, or possibly floral arrangements. One can find many tableware pieces of such Ruby Cut to Clear Glass in vases, tumblers, plates and decanters. This bowl would make the perfect center piece for an ornate table setting...
It is heavy lead crystal, weighing about 5 lbs. and it is 6 inches high and 7 inches across at its greatest width. The two rows of round facets create a psychedelic effect depending upon the background, and the angle at which one stares at the many "windows," reminiscent of some of the later patterns found in Fenton and other American manufacturers in the 20th Century.
