Oil Painting of Swiss Lake by Unknown Artist (late 19th Century)

This unsigned European landscape of an idealized Swiss lake has a story to tell, but much of it has been lost to time. We purchased it from a New York Gallery in the 1980's and its provenance was thought to be Swiss. The piece is in excellent shape but there is some flaking occurring in the sky portion of the work and it would be best to conserve this before any damage will occur.

This is a beautiful, peaceful memory of an idyllic countryside, probably in one of the central Swiss valleys. It brings peace and nostalgia to the viewer, harkening back to a simpler time when people and machines were much more manageable.
