Catalonian Cast of Last Supper

The beauty of Catalonian Middle Ages Art is haunting and timeless. This piece has graced our library for more than fifty years and is a source of calm and reflective peace in a turbulent world.

It is Catalonian cast of Christ at the Last Supper, surrounded by the Twelve Apostles. It was purchased in Fribourg, Switzerland in 1969 while I was a student at the Université de Fribourg, Switzerland.

According to the owner of the shop where it was purchased it on the Rue de Romont, it is a cast taken from a stone church carving in Catalonia. The owner estimated that the original carving probably dates from the high Middle Ages, between the 12th and 14th centuries. We do not know the specific church where it was made.

It measures about 12 inches wide, 2 inches thick and 10 inches high. It is heavy, weighing about 25 lbs.
