Murano Vintage Nason Moretti Sommerso Art Glass Duckling (1950s)
A charming mid-century Nason Moretti Murano Sommerso Duckling awaits your invitation to swim on your vanity, mantlepiece or other places. This beautifully executed piece captures the energy and brilliance of a duckling just taking to the pond. The piece is etched on the underside with the "Nason"( Moretti) Murano signature. Led by Umberto and Carlo Nason, Nason Moretti Murano atelier continues producing superior art glass to this day... pieces by Nason Moretti are hard to come by these days.
The Nason (Moretti's) signature is valuable in and of itself, since the Moretti brothers founded the company in 1923 and they and their progeny have been busy blowing glass for more than 100 years.
The sommerso technique was originally developed in the 1930's by Carlo Scarpa at Venini & Co.
Sommerso (Italian for "submerged") is the Murano glassmaking technique of creating two or more layers of contrasting glass without the colours mixing together. We estimate our ducklings date from the 1950's — although they might be older since the Sommerso technique was begun by various Murano ateliers in the 1930's. NasonMoretti (NM) were among the pioneers of innovative glass design and have continued as leaders into the present day.
Our Duckling weighs about 5 ounces and is about 4 inches across and 3 1/2 inches high.
